Onboarding & process
How we go from your first email to a live website.
How do I get started? +
Fill in the free onboarding form. It takes about five minutes. Share your business name, what you do, the pages you'd like, and one or two websites you like the look of. We take it from there entirely by email.
Do I have to hop on a call or Zoom? +
No. Everything (sharing details, reviewing the finished site, and requesting edits) happens over email so you can reply whenever suits your day. Calls are available if you want one, but never required.
How long does it take to build my website? +
Standard builds are ready for review within about two to three weeks of receiving your content. More complex projects or ones needing custom copywriting can take a little longer, and we'll give you a clear timeline before we begin.
What do I need to send you? +
Your logo, text for each page (or let us write it with the copywriting add-on), any photos you want to use, and one or two sites whose style you like. That's all we need to start building.
What kind of businesses do you build for? +
Owner-operated American small businesses: lawyers, therapists, plumbers, contractors, restaurants, gyms, salons, real estate agents, medical practices, and local clubs are all a great fit for the standard package.
Can I request changes while the site is being built? +
Absolutely. Once we send the staging link for your review, request revisions by email and we'll refine everything together before anything goes live.
Pricing & payment
Flat, honest, one-time, with no surprises later.
Do I really pay nothing upfront? +
Correct. There's no deposit at any point during design or build. The flat $900 fee is invoiced only after your website is finished, reviewed on a staging link, and approved by you.
What's included in the $900? +
A fully designed and built WordPress website with up to 15 pages, mobile responsiveness, on-page SEO setup, and clean schema markup. Online stores and payment processing are available as separate add-ons.
What payment methods do you accept? +
All major credit and debit cards, ACH bank transfers, and PayPal. Payment is only requested once you've reviewed and approved the finished site.
Are there any ongoing monthly fees? +
None from us. After the one-time flat fee, you owe us nothing monthly. Your only ongoing costs are your own hosting plan and domain renewal (typically $5–$15/month combined), both controlled entirely by you.
What optional add-ons are available? +
All one-time and clearly priced: E-commerce setup (+$600), Advanced Local GMB Boost (+$150), Full Website Copywriting (+$350), Google Ads Launch Boost (+$99), Google Business Map Setup (+$49), plus $40/hour for additional maintenance. See the pricing page for details.
What's the Website Rescue plan? +
A $450 flat-fee migration for businesses on Wix, Squarespace, or an expensive agency plan. We rebuild your site cleanly on your own account with zero downtime.
Ownership & files
The whole point: you actually own everything.
Who owns the website when it's done? +
You do, completely. All code, files, domain access, and hosting credentials are in your name from day one, and handed to you fully at launch. No closed platform, no login dependency, no hostage situation.
What happens if GetOwnWeb ever shuts down? +
Nothing. Your site lives on your own hosting account with zero dependency on us. Removing our access is all it takes to fully sever ties, and your site keeps running exactly as before.
Can I edit the site myself after launch? +
Yes. It's built on WordPress, so you can log into your own dashboard and update text, images, and pages without ever touching code.
Can I move to a different host later? +
Any time. Since every file is yours, you can migrate to any host using standard WordPress tools. No permission needed, no exit fees, no notice periods.
Will you keep admin access after launch? +
Only if you want us to for monthly maintenance. If you'd rather remove our login entirely, just delete it from your WordPress admin. The site keeps running, unchanged.
Domain & hosting
Yours from day one, not rented from us.
Do I need my own hosting and domain? +
Yes, and that's deliberate. Setting everything up in your account means it's truly yours forever. If you don't have hosting yet, we'll guide you to a reliable, affordable provider (usually $5–$10/month). We never resell hosting or mark it up.
Which hosts do you recommend? +
For most small businesses: SiteGround, Cloudways, or Hostinger. All reliable, affordable, and WordPress-friendly. We'll help you get set up on whichever you choose during onboarding.
Can I use a domain I already own? +
Yes. If you already have one registered, we'll connect it to your new hosting. If you need one, we can point you to a good registrar. We recommend keeping domain and hosting separate for flexibility.
Do you offer hosting yourselves? +
No, on purpose. Agencies that bundle hosting are the ones charging you monthly forever. We build on your own account so we never bill you to keep your site online.
Will my site have SSL (HTTPS)? +
Yes. All modern hosts include free Let's Encrypt SSL certificates. We make sure HTTPS is properly configured before launch.
Migration & rescue
Escaping Wix, Squarespace, or an expensive agency.
Can you migrate my existing Wix or Squarespace site? +
Yes, that's exactly what the $450 Website Rescue covers. We rebuild your site cleanly on WordPress in your own hosting account, preserving brand, content, and URL structure.
Will my site go offline during migration? +
No. We build and test on a staging server first. The DNS switch usually takes under an hour and we schedule it to minimise disruption.
Will migration hurt my Google rankings? +
SEO continuity is a first-class concern. We map and preserve your URL structure, metadata, and schema so Google sees a clean upgrade rather than a new site. Ranking impact is typically minimal.
I'm locked into an agency contract. Can you still help? +
Yes. We can build your new site in parallel so it's ready the moment your existing contract ends, with zero downtime when you make the switch.
Do you need access to my current site? +
Read-only access to your current platform is helpful but often not required. We can usually rebuild from the live public site. We'll confirm exactly what we need during onboarding.
After launch & support
One free hour a month, plus $40/hour for anything bigger.
What if I need a change after launch? +
Just email us. Core platform updates, security patches, and up to one hour of free text or image edits are included every month. Anything more is $40/hour flat. No retainer, no minimum.
What does the free monthly hour cover? +
Small text updates, image swaps, adding a team member to your About page, changing hours, updating a phone number: anything that fits in under an hour. Larger structural changes are billed at $40/hour.
Do you handle WordPress updates and security? +
Yes. WordPress core, plugin updates, and security patches are all covered by ongoing support. We monitor your site and apply updates proactively.
What if my site breaks or goes down? +
Email us and we'll investigate right away. Downtime on our end, or a hosting issue we can help with, is treated as a priority and fixed at no extra charge.
Can I cancel or walk away any time? +
Yes. No notice period, no exit fee. Just remove our login from your WordPress admin. Your site stays live, every file stays yours, and you owe us nothing further.
